As the pet food industry continues to evolve, I believe one of the key factors that must remain in the forefront is consumer trust and transparency. Pet owners want to be sure that what they’re feeding their pets is safe, nutritious, and accurately labeled. The ongoing discussions around regulatory changes, such as the PURR Act of 2025 in the US, highlight the critical need to consider clear, reliable labeling practices as a central element of the pet food sector.
AAFCO, the non-profit organization that sets standards for animal feeds and pet food in the U.S., recently published an article expressing concerns about how certain regulatory shifts might negatively impact consumers. Their insights highlight the potential risks of misleading labeling and the unintended consequences that could arise if transparency standards are not upheld. As regulatory discussions evolve—such as with the PURR Act of 2025—this commitment must remain a priority.
In a world where false claims and discrepancies unfortunately can and do occur, I am confident that ensuring transparency helps minimize these risks and promotes honesty across the board. AAFCO’s ongoing work highlights the importance of transparency standards. Consumers deserve to make informed decisions about what they feed their pets. This means that transparency in labeling, ingredient sourcing, and product claims must be safeguarded, regardless of the changes in the regulatory landscape.
